Survival

1: When a boy named Max comes to the Hubermans household they try to help him survive the Holocaust.

2: Liesel Meminger was the only one to have survived the bombing of the German troops.

3:Liesel survived the tough times at school when the kids made fun of her because she couldn't read.

 

Max- Careful

Max creating a strong bond with Liesel left the Hubermans basement in thought that if they found him they would have to give up Liesel.

Liesel-Depressed

She is very depressed when her brother has passed on the train and she begins to have dreams of her brother.

Hans Huberman- Thoughtful

He is very thoughtful when Liesel goes through tough times and dreams about her brother.

Rudy- Loyal

Sticks by Liesel and helps Tommy to hear his marching orders.

Rosa Huberman- Rough

She is very impaintent to Hans and takes the challenge of taling on a laundry buisness.

What does this mean: This is saying that everybody has a positive side and you don't have to be negative.

What does this mean: This means that it was extremely unexpected and nobody knew that was going to happen but, has a serious exaggeration in this piece of irony.

What text said: The stealing that cemented their friendship completely

What does this mean: This time they trusted each other that they wouldn’t tell so can tell they have a close bond.

Setting: Nazi Germany, 1939

Dramatic Situation: Hitler’s troops and   Troubles in Families

Conflict that Motivates: The book burnings

Obstacles:  The book burnings, brother’s death, max moving in

Complication: Max comes to live with them. Hiding a Jewish person is dangerous

Changes in Motivation:  The bombing, Max moving out

Obstacles: Max moving out, the bombing, her dreams

Climax: The climax in The Book Thief was about the parade of Jews who come through town and then Hans gives man bread. He gets whipped by a Nazi-guard. Hans is afraid they will search the house so, Max has to leave. Hans is now forced as a punishment to enter the army. They are left alone and he comes back with a broken leg.

Falling Action:  Events/After Effects

Max moves out            They don’t have to give her away

The bombing              Liesel survives the bombing

Resolution:

Liesel sees Max marching to the concentration camp and wales with him and gets whipped. Rudy stops her from following him. Liesel gives up books then Isla gives her a blank book to write in. She is writing when her town gets bombed and she is the only one who survives because she was in the basement
